In conjunction with the razing of the old Waiohai Hotel to make way for Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, Marriott Ownership Resorts has pledged to make improvements to the county Po’ipu Beach Park parking lot and adjacent Mano Kalanipo Park.
Today, an unpaved, unmarked, unimproved dirt parking lot exists along Ho’one and Ho’owili roads abutting the Waiohai property. Soon, a paved parking lot for 132 vehicles surrounded by naupaka hedge and monkey pod and coconut trees will be constructed.
Marriott Ownership Resorts, owner of the Waiohai, will go before the Kaua’i Planning Commission March 13 for a 1:30 p.m. public hearing on the permits necessary to do the work.
A public meeting on the plans is set for March 7 at 7 p.m. at the Koloa School cafeteria. Greg Kamm, project manager for Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, will discuss the park improvements, assisted by representatives of the Honolulu landscape architecture firm Tongg Clarke & McCelvey.
Earlier this month, Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce board members and other business and community leaders got their own special presentation on the improvement plans, valued at up to $800,000.
