The boys need help!
While the season for the boys’ 9-10 community basketball may be over until the summer league kicks in, there are ten boys who continue to work on drills and the improvement of their hardcourt skills at the Peter Rayno Park in Hanamaulu.
Under the watchful eyes of their coach, Billy Ramos, the boys are working toward participating in a basketball tournament upcoming in Kona from March 23-25.
Prior to that date, the Lihu’e Ali’i will have an opportunity to present their talents to the people of Kaua’i when they participate in a special invitational at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on March 16-17.
There, the county hosts teams from the Honolulu PAL (Police Activities League) program.
But, getting ten boys to Kona can have its financial hurdles, so the boys will be interrupting their practice sessions to hold three car washes in an effort at defraying some of the expenses of the trip.
Starting this weekend, the Lihu’e Ali’i will be hosing down cars at the Big Kmart parking lot. On March 4, the team will be handling cars in the parking lot of Long’s Drugs in the Kaua’i Shopping Village
On March 18, the team comes home to Lihu’e where they will be washing cars in the Wal Mart parking lot.
Prices are $5 for cars, $7 for SUV’s, and $10 for trucks and vans.
Hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at all sites.
Members of the Lihu’e Ali’i are: Tryson Gray, Jonathan Gebauer, Kupa Graycochea, Braxton Garma (from the Hanapepe program), Justin Ramos, Pono Perez, Micah Alayvilla, Michael Julian, Chris Longboy, and Kainoa Lemke.
The Ali’i isn’t the only team that attempts to raise money. Often, when a car wash or cookie sale is seen, sporting youths are behind the activity.
If you’re feeling like a car wash or a have a sweet tooth, perhaps dropping by at these activities would be a way to serve the community, from high schools on down to the community leagues.
