The U.S. Weather Service is warning Kauaians to beware of heavy rains across the Island. Reports from Wainiha say a landslide has cut off traffic near the double bridge over Wainiha St ream, and that taro fields are flooding onto Kuhio Highway near Hanalei town. A report from Koloa says heavy rains are also hitting the south shore. Lihu’e is overcast with light rain.
The U.S. Weather Service report for this morning states: “Urban and small stream flood advisory for Kauai until 930 am HST… Heavy showers and thunderstorms are continuing across Kauai. At this time the areas mainly affected are north Kauai and much of mount Waialeale. One large thunderstorm cell appears to be anchored over the northeastern quadrant of mount Waialeale and will likely bring very heavy rainfall to the streams from Lihue to Anahola to Wainiha. Rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour. Other cells may form and move over Kauai over the next few hours from the south and southeast. “
