LIHU’E — Until Tuesday night, Kapa’a forward Jeff Giminez had not provided the spark his coaches were certain he was capable of. He was averaging 4.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest.
One must wonder, then, what sparked his 16-point, three-rebound outburst in Kapa’a’s 62-56 victory Tuesday night.
Not only did he score a bundle, but his points were also not lost in the course of the game. Nearly all of them came at crucial moments, when the Warriors needed a jump shot or a pair of free throws made.
The senior sunk consecutive buckets to end the first half and was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Kekoa Chun also provided Kapa’a a boost. The senior scored 11 points and snared six rebounds. He also ended the contest with a slam dunk.
The game was hotly contested, as the lead changed 13 times.
Kaua’i was ahead 45-42 early in the final period, but could not hold off the Kapa’a charge.
R-Jay Pillos paced the Red Raiders with 17 points. Jason Kashiwabara played his most aggressive game of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing four rebounds. Lionel Tomacder added 12 points and five boards.
Rhyan Greenleaf scored nine for Kapa’a.
