NFL quarterbacks put time in on island – School talks and video shoots keep QBs busy
By JASON GALLIC – TGI Sports Editor
Tiger Woods’ November stay on Kaua’i for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf was short and sweet.
He arrived on the island the morning of the first round and departed the following day, after the final 18 holes.
The quarterbacks participating in the NFL QB Challenge are not such short-timers. Five of the six men who will vie for the title as Challenge champion Thursday were scheduled to take part in at least one formal island event.
Here is what those players did:
Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles — Spoke at Wilcox Elementary School Tuesday. Also Tuesday, McNabb was scheduled to go on a wagon ride, out of the Princeville Stables, to overlook the sea cliffs.
Trent Dilfer, Baltimore Ravens — Spoke at Hanalei Elementary School Tuesday. Monday he did a television shoot on horseback at the Princeville Stables.
Rob Johnson, Buffalo Bills — Spoke at Kilauea School Tuesday. Monday he did a video shoot in a kayak in the bay behind the Marriott.
Jake Plummer, Arizona Cardinals — Did a shoot Monday at the old Koloa Sugar Mill.
Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts — Will do a shoot at the Kilauea Lighthouse.
In addition, legends Jim Kelly and Jim Everett were scheduled to speak at Eleele School and at St. Francis School, respectively.
Jeff Garcia is the only QB in the competition not scheduled for an extra-curricular activity.
The video shoots come in handy for the Hawai’i Tourism Authority, when they are used as lead-ins to the competition’s airing on CBS in July.
