Motorists were left to fend for themselves at intersections without working traffic signals around parts of Lihu’e, and some homes and businesses in the area went without power after an automobile crashed into a utility pole on Hardy Street Wednesday morning.
Kaua’i County Police were not available to comment on whether anybody was injured in what appeared to be a one-car accident at 7:43 a.m.
Power subsequently went out along Hardy and Rice streets, according to Kaua’i Electric spokeswoman Jenny Fujita.
Following repairs by utility company troubleshooters, power was restored to Rice Street at 8:30 and to Hardy Street by 8:50 a.m., Fujita said.
During the outage, cars creeped across affected intersections. There were no reports of any other accidents related to the incident, Fujita said.
The driver of the vehicle who crashed into the utility pole and knocked out power will be responsible for paying for damage to utility equipment, Fujita said.
