Hundreds, maybe thousands of lights decorate the 15 houses on the cul-de-sac in Kapa’a just off Kuhio Highway.
It’s one of the neighborhoods The Garden Island has heard about since inviting readers to tip off fellow light-lovers to where to find some of the best and brightest outdoor home Christmas decorations on Kaua’i.
Another festive spot is Kalalea Road in Anahola. The word is take a car ride there and you’re guaranteed a lighted feast for your eyes, courtesy of at least one home.
All of the homes on Laaukea Place are lit up for three hours nearly every night. “Not one house is black,” assured Denise Deluna, one of the residents.
Deluna credits the neighborhood display to Emily Souza, “sort of the sheriff of the community. She makes sure you hang lights. Her house is probably the most lit up. You could see it from the sky if you were up in a plane.” “Unless it’s raining,” Denise said, the Souzas and the Delunas sit curbside sipping egg nog and handing out candy canes to children in cars that come to see the light show.
