Zonta/TGI Christmas FundLauri was born with a club foot and a related
deformity of her hand on the same side. Soon after she was born, she and her
family s began receiving early intervention services from Easter Seals and from
Shriners. There were also concerns about her eyes and her vision and she also
began to receive services to address this need.
However, at approximately
6 months old, another more urgent medical problem was diagnosed. She was having
problems with her kidneys.
This took precedence for the family, and
earlier this year she received surgery to correct the problem. Her recovery
took several months, which forestalled any previous intent to correct her club
foot, her hand or her eyes.
Lauri’s family has a limited income. They
reside in a low-income housing unit, and her dad has only had temporary
employment opportunities. Lauri has three brothers – a first-grader, a
preschooler and a newborn baby brother.
With so many problems, the family
isn’t even thinking about extras for Christmas. Gift certificates for the
adults and toys for the children would make this little family have a happier
holiday.
Family could use
some new clothes
Susan is a single
mother with two daughters – Jessie, 8, and Mandie, 9. The family was homeless
on Kaua’i for over a year. Susan finally got assistance with housing.
She
has only been able to find part-time work, which makes it very hard to live on.
There is never any money left from month to month. They all could use new
clothes for Christmas, but anything they get would be greatly appreciated.
