Once again, another year is coming to a close and the holiday season is upon
us. But Christmas isn’t a time when Kaua`i Police officers will stop arresting
drunk drivers.
Police chief George Freitas said random DUI checkpoints will
be conducted throughout the holiday season at unannounced times and
places.
In addition to alcohol and drug-impaired drivers, the checkpoints
will target seatbelt and child restraint violations, plus unlicensed and
uninsured drivers.
The checkpoints will run through Jan. 7.
Freitas
said the men and women of the Police Department wish everyone a safe and happy
holiday season. And they will be out on the roads helping with the safe portion
of their holiday wishes.
