The 5th annual Lighted Christmas Parade will brighten the westside on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 6 p.m. in Waimea.
Presented by West Kauai Business and Professional Association, floats and marching units of all sizes, made by community and businesses, will light up the face of children of all ages.
The parade route on Kaumualii Highway (Main Street) starts at Waimea Canyon Drive and ends at Ala Wai Road just before the Waimea Bridge.
Floats will be on display on Waimea Road.
Town merchants go all out decorating street fronts for the occasion. A review stand will be set up on the lawn fronting the Waimea Public Library.
Following the parade, fellowship, refreshments and entertainment takes place on the stage fronting First Hawaiian Bank and Hofgaard Park.
There will be pictures of the keiki with Santa by Westside Fast Photo starting at 5 p.m.
Entertainment this year includes the Waimea High School Band, Ni’ihau School of Kekaha, Island Worship Choir of Anahola and ending with musician and composer Henry Kapono flying in from Honolulu.
Funding and major support from the County of Kaua’i, Pacific Missile Range Facility, Hawaii Millennium Commission – Kaua’i, Waimea Project Grad, ITT Federal Services and the many businesses and merchants.
Traffic Advisory West Kauai Business and Professional Association apologies for the inconvenience to motorists during the Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade.
Expect traffic to be slow and possibly stopped during the parade starting at 6 p.m.
Parking along the parade route will be prohibited before and during the parade. Through traffic will be rerouted using the Ala Wai and Panako Roads. Some of the side streets will be closed.
Police officers and security will be directing traffic.
