Zonta/TGI Christmas FundWilma Enos is a 34-year-old single female caring
for her four young children – the youngest not quite 2 years old, the youngest
10.
A few years ago, when she was pregnant with her youngest daughter,
Wilma got into an automobile accident. The baby suffered head trauma. Wilma
suffered two broken legs and had to have a metal rod inserted surgically in
both legs. She required several months of physical therapy and a lot of hard
work and dedication to walk again.
Wilma does not receive child support
and is surviving on Social Security survivors benefits, AFDC benefits and food
stamps. Her rent takes over three-fourths of her income.
It has been
difficult trying to get by with four growing children and have enough food and
clothes for each of them on top of paying the rent on time.
Wilma has a
goal to get off welfare and provide for her children comfortably. She got a
grant and is attending Kaua’i Community College to become a paralegal, then an
attorney. Balancing school with her children is even tougher, but she is
strong-willed and positive.
Wilma is requesting a gift certificate from
Wal-Mart to purchase much-needed clothes for her kids, money to purchase a
Christmas tree and some cleaning supplies for the house.
