The Kaua`i County Council that voters picked last month is now officially
handling the county’s legislative business.
Bill “Kaipo” Asing, back on the
council after a two-year hiatus, was the only new council member among newly
elected officials at a swearing-in ceremony Friday afternoon.
Asing
replaces Billy Swain, who served a single, two-year term before being
unseated.
Re-elected to the council were Ron Kouchi, Randal Valenciano,
Bryan Baptiste, Gary Hooser, Daryl Kaneshiro and Jimmy Tokioka.
The
inaugural meeting of the newly constituted council was held at the Kaua`i War
Memorial Convention Hall to accommodate a bigger-than-usual crowd for council
gatherings. Mayor Maryanne Kusaka presided over the swearing-in ceremony, which
also included Prosecuting Attorney, re-elected in the Nov. 7 general
election.
