Memorial Hospital on Nov. 14, 2000, at the age of 67.
A custodian with the
state government, he was born Feb. 2, 1933, in the Philippines.
He is
survived by his wife: Resurreccion Rivera Layaoen of Koloa; seven daughters:
Ederline (Henry) Parubrub of Waimea, Luz (Ceasar) Ortal of the Philipines,
Rosemarie (Michael) Steffan of Germany, Rossimi (Jojo) Daguit, Gina (Elmer)
Pambid, and Annabelle (Reuben) Arellano, all of the Philippines, and Margie
Layaoen of Koloa; one son: Joel (Rowena) Layaoen of the Philippines; one
sister: Magdalena (Resty) Parubrub of ‘Ele’ele; two brothers: Jose (Cristeta)
Layaoen of Kilauea and Mac (Dely) Layaoen of Po’ipu; 18 grandchildren, two
great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled
for Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9 a.m.
Services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public
Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by
Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.

Thelma Akiko
Shibukawa of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died Nov. 2, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital on
O’ahu, at the age of 61.
Born Sept. 17, 1939, in Kona, HI, she was employed
by Tip Top Cafe and Bakery for 38 years.
She is survived by one son, Robert
(Cindy Hernandez) Shibukawa, sisters Rose (Harrison) Iga, Jean (George)
Nakamura, and brothers Clyde Tokumura, Oliver (Nora) Tokumura, mother Harue
Tokumura, brother-in-law, James Mori; grandchildren Robert Jr. , Cody and Erin;
numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held on Nov. 12, in
Honolulu. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 9 to 11
a.m. at the home of Robert Shibukawa, 2949 Wa’a Rd. in Lihu’e.

May M. Mukai, of Waimea, Kauai, died at Kauai Veterans Memorial
Hospital on Nov. 12, 2000, at the age of 74.
Born in Makawao, Maui, on
May 6, 1926, she was a retired Pharmacy Aide with Waimea Dispensary.
She is
survived by her husband: Shigeto Mukai of Waimea, Kauai; one son: Howard
Mukai of Mililani, Oahu; two daughters: Sharla (Dick) Matsumoto of Kamuela,
Hawaii and Patti See of Honolulu, O’ahu; three grandchildren; two brothers:
Karl Tomomitsu of Honolulu, Oahu and Kaito Tomomitsu of Kapaa, Kauai; four
sisters: Lily Higashi of Wailua, Kauai, Kashiko Tomomitsu of
Honolulu, Oahu, Ruth Spencer of Kona, Hawaii, and Jessie Okuhara of Culver
City, Calif.; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral
services were private. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary,
Ltd.
