The Countdown
Waimea High School is preparing for its ninth consecutive trip to the
state playoffs.
– Days to game: 6
– Opponent: OIA #1, Kahuku
Season Record: Kahuku (10-1)
We told our kids yesterday [Saturday]
that we might as well play the best the OIA has to offer, and that’s
Kahuku.
Kahuku is big, strong, fast and physically very tough. They are
balanced offensively, have great team speed and can throw the ball.
Our
boys are just happy that they know who they’re going to play against. It’s time
for us to just prepare for one team. And we’ve played big bodies before. We’re
not going to back down from anyone.
We’re going to try and use our
quickness against them and attack the gaps. We want to see if we can beat one
or two guys in particular, get some penetration and then send the house at
them.
. . . the thing is, I think they are faster than us at every
position. They’ve got a guy 6-foot-7, 340 pounds and runs a 4.7 40. But we’re
excited.
