The Countdown\
Waimea High School is preparing for its ninth
consecutive trip to the state playoffs.
– Days to game: 7
Opponent: OIA #1, either Wai’anae or Kahuku
– Season Records: Wai’anae
(11-0); Kahuku (9-1)
We are again committing ourselves to the basics
today [Thursday]. We’re in pads and hitting each other, and doing a lot of
running. We’ve got to stay in shape.
It’s too late in the season for us to
be banging on each other, but you can never replace being in shape. We have to
prepare for the astroturf over at Aloha Stadium. It’s good turf, and gives a
lot. It’s not normal astroturf. It’s kind of like running on a soft surface, so
it’s a little harder to get the RPMs going.
On the Wai’anae-Kahuku
game
We’re definitely in the Wai’anae camp over here. Both us and them are
from the same places, really, the leeward side of our islands. We’re from the
same kind of people, country people. We really have a lot of respect for the
Wai’anae program and would like to see them win.
