The community-supported reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or
persons who killed two West Side women has risen to $25,000.
Two businesses
– Makai Properties of Po’ipu and First Class Travel of Foothill Ranch, Calif. –
each donated $10,000 to increase the award to its new amount, which Kaua’i
Police hope will generate more possible tips for investigators.
The reward
initially was set at $10,000 Sept. 13. Since then, calls to Crime Stoppers, an
anti-crime program sponsored by the police and Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce, have
dwindled to one or two per week from a high of 12 early in the murder
investigations, officials said.
Daren Singer, whose body was discovered
Aug. 30 near Pakala Beach, and Lisa Bissell, whose body was discovered April 7
on a road leading to Polihale Beach, are believed to be the victims of the same
killer, as is a third woman who survived an attack May 22.
Police have
released a sketch of a possible suspect, based on what they say is the
survivor’s description: A dark-skinned male, 6 feet tall and weighing about 200
pounds.
