Born in Lihue, Kauai on Aug. 2, 1907, he is survived by: one
son: Harold D. (Charmian) Sato of Mililani, Oahu; two daughters: Karen
(James) Tamaye of Honolulu, Oahu and Katherine S. McNelly of Lihue, Kauai; 12
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Haruo (Dora) Sato of
Lihue, Kauai and Toshiyuki (Ellen) Sato fo Honolulu, Oahu; two sisters:
Matsuko Sakamoto of Honolulu, Oahu and Nobuko Kusatsu of Honolulu, Oahu;
numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.

Pacita “Pat” Maglinti Castillo of Honolulu, HI, and formerly of
Kaua’i, died Oct. 5, 2000, at the age of 66.
Born April 5, 1934, in Kapa’a,
she is survived by one son, Alton; daughter, Myrna Kaneshiro; brothers, Alex,
Johnny Jr., Tony, and Vincent Maglinti; sisters, Gloria Santos, Ligaya Saflor,
Lourdes Alisna, Agnes Hoyohoy, and Incarnacion Ortiz; five grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel
earlier this month.
Hotoshi Miyabara
Hotoshi Miyabara, of
Hanapepe, Kauai, died at home on Oct. 16, 2000, at the age of 92.
Born in
Hanapepe, Kauai on Feb. 15, 1908, he is survived by: his wife: Hatsue Miyabara
of Hanapepe, Kauai; four grandchildren; two brothers: Haruo (Joyce) Miyabara
of Honolulu, Oahu and Mutsuo (Betty) Miyabara of Honolulu, Oahu; numerous
nieces and nephews.
Service were private. Arrangements were handled by
Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Marie Medeiros
Marie V. Medeiros of
‘Oma’o, died Oct. 18, 2000, at the age of 95.
She is survived by two
brothers: Larry (Tilly) V. Medeiros of Modesto, Calif., and Gabriel V. Medeiros
of ‘Oma’o; two sisters: Dorothy Schorzman of Odessa, Wash., and Juliet V.
Medeiros of ‘Oma’o; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and
great great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Raphael’s
Church in Koloa on Wednesday, Oct. 25; viewing from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Mass at
11 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Cemetery.

Matsushima
Clifford Melvin Matsushima of Anahola died Oct. 19, 2000, at
Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 63.
A plumber with the County of
Kaua’i, he was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i.
He is survived
by his wife: Katherine Kane Matsushima of Anahola; two sons: Clifford “Kaina”
Matsushima of Anahola and Dexter Kaleo Matsushima of Honolulu; three
daughters: Deede (Peter) Contrades of Anahola, Cassie (Aaron) Camara of Kapa’a,
and Leah “Teete” (Russell) Matsushima of Kapa’a; two hanai sons: Samisoni Tupou
and Daniel Ventura; mother: Helen Rego Matsushima of Hanama’ulu; three sisters:
Joyce Sasaki of Hanama’ulu, Shirley Leite of Hilo, and Linda Antonio of Maui;
and one brother: Lester Matsushima of Lihu’e; five grandchildren; Chelsey
Contrades, Treana and Cody Valpoon, and Aarika-Lei and Austin
Camara.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27, at Borthwick/Kaua’i
Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m.

Alfonso Lara
Alfonso Lara of Lawai,
Kaua’i, died Oct. 21, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 61.
A
farming proprietor, he was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Waimea, Kaua’i.
He is
survived by his wife: Alberta Abreu Lara of Lawai; one daughter: Shanlyn
(Lawrence) Mundon of Kapa’a and one brother: Eddie (Rosalind) Lara of Kalaheo;
several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two grandchildren.
Friends and
family may call on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45
a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Koloa Public
Cemetery.
