A one-year jail sentence and five years probation for Wade Kalei Asing (“Jail
for Oahu man who fathered child with 12-year-old,” Oct. 21) is an open
invitation for older men to go for what they believe is okay: Molesting and
statutory rape.
As far as the judge is concerned, it’s okay, only one year
in jail and five years probation. A few days before, another person got 25
years in jail for the same crime. He didn’t even father a child with that girl.
What happened to that one? Was it because he didn’t have the same judge?
I
assume Judge Clifford Nakea listened to something that was said by Asing to
make him go with this decision. This type of judgment just spoils the
reputation of the judicial system.
I am the grandmother for this
12-year-old girl, and all what I said and did was overlooked by the lies that
Asing told the court. So why make laws if they’re not going to serve the
purpose. Is molestation and statutory rape just a phrase of words with no
meaning and no punishment? I deeply feel that he should have the maximum
punishment and deserves it. But all I can say is, I’m not the
judge.
