LIHU’E – Two requests from Kaua’i Police chief George Freitas for money to help
beef up local law enforcement have been approved by the County Council.
The
council Wednesday authorized Freitas to accept $35,000 of training funds
offered by Falco Partners of San Mateo, Calif. The money will be used to send
the Kaua`i Police canine officer to train in California with a new dog, also
donated by Falco.
The animal will be used for narcotics
detection.
Freitas also asked for and will receive $19,000 in grant funds,
plus a matching $2,129 from the Police Department’s asset-forfeiture account to
be used to fund training and purchase equipment for a crowd-control team and an
incident command post.
