again around the island.
Police chief George Freitas said the checkpoints,
which will run through the Thanksgiving weekend, will also be targeting
seatbelt and child restraint violations, as well as drunken and impaired
drivers.
The sobriety checkpoints will be mobile and islandwide.
Police
also want all motorists to drive with respect and courtesy for each other to
prevent more injuries on the roadways, Freitas said. There have been four
highway deaths so far this year, compared to five murders and 10 drownings in
the same time period.
