Cruz of Hanapepe; his father: Fred Dela Cruz of Waimea; two brothers: Stanley
(Patricia) Dela Cruz of ‘Ele’ele and Ernest (April) Dela Cruz of Kekaha; one
sister: Roberta (Lowell) Agena of Kekaha; one sister-in-law: Vicki Dela Cruz of
Lihu’e; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends
may visit with the family at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Holy Cross
Catholic Church. Mass officiated by Father Keahi will begin at 2 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Garden

Matsuko Yamahira
Matsuko Yamahira of
Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died on Oct. 12, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age
of 80.
A retired sales clerk with Kaua’i stores, she was born on Oct. 7,
1920, in Makaweli.
She is survived by two daughters: Jacqueline Yamahira
of Lihu’e and Flora (Ronald) Oda of Wailua Homesteads; two grandchildren: Emily
Oda and Andrew Oda, both of Wailua Homesteads; three brothers: Hichiro
(Tsunako) Tanigawa of Honolulu, Toichi Tanigawa of ‘Oma’o and Kanichi (Alicia)
Tanigawa of Hanapepe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit
with the family at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Kapa’a Missionary Church.
Service officiated by Rev. Edwin Terui will begin at 4 p.m.

Satsuyo Yamada
Satsuyo Yamada of Koloa,
Kaua’i, died on Oct. 8, 2000, at Hale ‘Oma’o Care Home at the age of 77.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1923, in Koloa.
She is survived by a special
friend: Shoichi Iwasaki of Lihu’e; one sister: Masayo Nakamura of Port Allen;
and numerous nephews.
Services were private.

Richard Spies
Richard
Marshall Spies of Hawai’i Kai died at home on Oct. 7, 2000, at the age of 69. A
masonry contractor, he was born in Chicago, Illinois.
He is survived by his
wife Penelope “Penny” Spies, brother Jeffrey Ward Spies of California, son
James Jeffrey “Jimmy” Spies of Lihu’e, daughter and son-in-law Karen Kahelelani
and John “Jay” Whalen, and grandchildren Piper Whalen and James Whalen, all of
Honolulu.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 3-5 p.m.
at the Waikiki Yacht Club. Casual attire is suggested. Donations may be made to
the American Cancer Society or Hospice Hawai’i.
