From TGI Staff Reports
The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) kicked off its 2000/01
season Saturday, Sept. 23, with a contest at P.K.’s.
The association was
founded over 20 years ago with the idea of combining the athletically enjoyable
elements of surfing with the importance of education. To compete, surfers must
maintain a 2.0 grade point average.
Qualifying surfers will be invited to
attend the state regional contest in March. Then, if success is had at
regionals, a surfer may pass on to the national competition in late June in
California.
Saturday’s contest brought two-to-three foot swells on the
clear, sunny day
