Cancer patients on Kaua’i have some good friends in the Antone and Edene
Vidinha Charitable Trust and the Visitor Industry Charity Walk 2000 Island of
Kaua’i.
The organizations recently awarded grants of $10,000 and $9,000,
respectively, to American Cancer Society’s Kaua’i unit. The money will support
cancer-prevention and early-detection efforts, as well as help boost the
quality of life of cancer sufferers.
Even people whose lives haven’t been
marred by cancer can benefit from the charities’ assistance. A portion of the
Charity Walk funds will be used for printed materials to educate Kauai’s 10,000
public school students on the health hazards of smoking – a valuable lesson to
learn, since lung cancer ranks alongside colorectal cancer as the leading cause
of cancer deaths on Kaua’i.
American Cancer Society has a life-and-death
fight to win. The Vidinha trust and the Charity Walk are important allies.
