The Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation bowling season got under way at the
Lihu’e Lanes Saturday, Sept. 23, at noon. For the boys, Kapa’a showed itself
to be superior, gaining seven points to Waimea’s 4.5. Kaua’i finished with half
a point.
The Warriors won two of the three games, finished second in the
third game and won the overall total pins. High games for Kapa’a were bowled by
Gavin Yokoi (205, 198), Sam Tupou (196) and Justin Ogata (209). Waimea’s high
games were turned in by Joshua Peralta (213, 198), Justin Muraoka (192) and
John J. Mission (217, also a match high).
For the girls, Kaua’i emerged
victorious, winning two of the three games and the total pins. Waimea finished
second, while Kapa’a placed third.
High games for Kaua’i were bowled by
Shalea Simao (183, 183) and Kelsi Sakai (191). Waimea’s high game was turned in
by Megan Mukai (215, also a match high).
KIF bowling will resume Sept. 30
at Lihu’e Lanes.
Team scores: Boys—Kapa’a, 873, 969, 787 for total of
2629; Waimea, 836, 825, 959 for total of 2620; Kaua’i, 818, 825, 738 for total
of 2381. Girls—Kaua’i, 775, 725, 644 for total of 2144; Waimea, 635, 678, 776
for total of 2089, Kapa’a, 677, 634, 663 for total of 1974.

Riflery
In action last Thursday, Sept. 21, Waimea defeated Island School in
both the boys’ and girls’ division. Thomas Santos led the way for the
Menehunes, firing a 248 out of a possible 300. Jomari Moris shot a 217 for
Island School.
In girls’ shooting, Kristen Aguilar paced the Menehunes with
a 236, while Jeni Guerber led Island School with a 173.
