Here’s your chance to name a road – and win a prize.
Entry forms are due
Oct. 15 for a contest to name the new Koloa bypass road. The Koloa Community
Association and Po’ipu Beach Resort Association are sponsoring the contest, in
which the winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for Po’ipu Shopping
Village, an invitation to the road dedication ceremony, and an official Kaua’i
County certificate of congratulations.
The gift certificate is sponsored by
Village Properties Inc., shopping center owner.
The road, according to Ken
Kitabayashi of the county Department of Public Works, should be open before the
end of the year, even though from both ends of the three-mile road it looks set
to open any day now.
The landscaping flora needs a chance to grow, once it
is fully planted, and a few other items must be completed before the road will
open, he said.
According to name-the-road contest organizers, the new
travelway should be a road, route or highway. The name could be Hawaiian, but
that is not necessary.
The contest is open to business people, individuals
and families in the Koloa and Po’ipu communities.
A selection panel will
determine the winner. Entry forms and more information are available by calling
742-7444.
