It’s that time of the month again.
The Hawai’i Civil Defense Division will
test its alert sirens and emergency alert system tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. — a
monthly drill for preparation in the event of disasters that could threaten the
islands.
The first part of the test will consist of a steady 45-second tone
from all of the islands’ siren towers, which have been distributed
geographically to alert as much of the populace as possible.
The siren
signal is intended as an advisory to tune into any radio or television station
for information that comprises the second half of the drill — the Emergency
Alert System.
Participating stations will broadcast the purpose of the
sirens, as well as any additional information. If a disaster — such as a
hurricane, tsunami, flash flood or earthquake — was truly pending, the
stations would provide information on the situation and further
instructions.
