Hawaiians wishing their votes really mattered in the upcoming presidential election can take heart in this: A new poll of several hundred of the state’s voters finds them almost equally divided between the two leading candidates-40 percent for the Republicans’ George W. Bush, 35 percent for Democrat Al Gore.
Some pundits are predicting a close race nationwide, too. If the popularity polls retain a relatively razor-thin margin for the next two months, there could be genuine drama in the outcome of balloting in Hawa’i for the next White House tenant. Wouldn’t that be nice.
