Born in Waimea, Kaua’i on May 25, 1907, she
is survived by: her husband: Torao Shintani of Waimea, Kaua’i; three
daughters: Kay Shintani Cuneo of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Mildred (Bill)
Tokushige of Honolulu, O’ahu, and Jean (Ernie) Tsuchida of Huntington Beach,
Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers:
Shigenori (Betty) Nishikawa of Waimea, Kaua’i, Tomeo (Yaeno) Nishikawa of
Honolulu, O’ahu, Larry (Ayame) Nishikawa of Hanapepe, Kaua’i, and Tokuzo
(Mieko) Nishikawa of Honolulu, O’ahu; one sister: Mitsuko Ishii of Waimea,
Kaua’i; one sister-in-law: Yoshiko Nishikawa of Honolulu, O’ahu; numerous
nieces and nephews.
Services were private. Arrangements were handled by
Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Anna “Netty” Hansen
Anna Josephine
“Netty” Hansen of Kalaheo died at home on Aug. 16, 2000, at the age of
96.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif. on Dec. 11, 1903, she arrived in Honolulu
in 1925 and was married to the late Hans William Hansen (former manager of
Lihu’e Plantation), for 49 years.
Mrs. Hansen was one of Kaua’i’s earliest
conservationists and a great contributor to the Kaua’i Humane Society. She led
her own personal crusade for the ethical and humane treatment of animals on
Kaua’i. She was the head of the Civilian American Red Cross Corps of Nurses on
Kaua’i during World War II. She was a well-known oil and watercolor artist on
the island, winning many prizes for her work, and an accomplished bridge player
and shell collector.
She is survived by one son: Basil William Hansen of
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; three grandchildren; Jan Haunani Mullins of Los Angeles,
Calif., Hans William Hansen, II of Kailua, O’ahu; Erin Kathleen Hansen of
Waimea, Kaua’i and their mother, Audrey Morine Hansen; three nieces, three
nephews and her beloved cat, Frosty.
Funeral services have been scheduled
at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel.
In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kaua’i Humane Society Thrift
Store, 3-3100 Kuhio Hwy., Lihu’e HI 96766. Aloha attire is suggested.

Hamamura
Noboru “Edward” Hamamura of Koloa, Kaua’i died Aug. 15, 2000, at
the age of 83. Born in Koloa, he was a retired painter.
He is survived by
his wife: Betty of Koloa; sons, Eddie of Honolulu, Leroy (Jenny) of Oregon,
Terry (Madelene) of San Francisco; brothers, Masamu of Pearl City, Shigeto of
Lihu’e, Jackson of Kekaha; Bunto of Koloa, Harry of Koloa; sisters, Fumi Iseri
of Koloa, Toki Kobashigawa of Koloa, Toiko Hamamura of Koloa.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuersday, Aug. 22, at Koloa Jodo Mission on Kaua’i;
Memorial service will be at 5 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and
that flowers be omitted.
