LIHU’E-A head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Kaumualii Highway near the
Akemama Road intersection took the life of a Kekaha
teenager.
Keikipunaheleokalani B. Kaliko, 17, the driver of one of the two
vehicles involved, was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Kaua’i
police said Wednesday.
According to police, the crash occurred about 2:10
p.m. when the passenger car Kaliko was driving west crossed the centerline and
struck an eastbound pickup truck carrying at least five occupants.
Those
five people were transported to Kaua’i Veteran’s Memorial Hospital by
ambulance. The passenger in Kaliko’s car was taken to Wilcox for treatment.
Police, citing a new state confidentiality law, did not release their names or
other information on their condition.
