Is there a U.S. political figure in a better position than Colin Powell? He’s so coveted by the Republican Party that GOP leaders and national conventioneers in Philadelphia willingly listened to him scold them Monday for not reaching out enough to minorities. He’s also able to say on national television, without being ridiculed as a carpetbagger, that he’d consider taking a cabinet position in the administration of Democrat Al Gore if the current vice president is promoted by voters-and assuming Gore offered Powell a job.
It must be nice to be wanted.
