CARLSBAD Mustangs’ thirdbaseman Bryce Hills takes the throw from his catcher as
the Mets’ Michael Iida gets set to slide into the base on a passed ball. Iida
was safe and eventually scored on the batter getting hit by a pitch, but
Carlsbad capitalized on Mets’ errors in the fourth inning to surge to a 14-8
win over the Mets. Other opening day action had the Carlsbad PONY getting by
Kaua`i 19-9. Games will be played on Tuesday at the Hanapepe Stadium complex
with the tournament ending Saturday with a luau starting at 5 p.m. at the Hale
O Rosie in the Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa. There are a total of seven Carlsbad
Mustang, Bronco, PONY, and girls’ softball teams participating against Kaua`i
teams.
