Donato (Dan) Anton Pantone of Kalaheo died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Wilcox
Memorial Hospital in Lihu’e, following a brief illness. He was born in Chicago,
Ill., on Feb. 20, 1927.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, having served
during the closing days of that war.
After earning his degree in chemistry
in Chicago, he moved to Southern California where he was employed by Rockwell
International as a Metallurgy Engineer until his retirement in 1986.
He and
his wife (Patti) moved to Kaua’i in 1988 and he became active in community
affairs, including National Tropical Botanical Gardens.
He was part of the
group responsible for the reactivation of the Navy League here and was chairman
for many fundraisers for the League. He also helped form the Italian
Club.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Pantone of Kalaheo, two daughters,
Lisa (Kevin) Garland and Linda (Jeff) Hynes, five grandchildren, brothers, Joe,
Tony and Rocky Pantone, and sister, Gloria Torres, all from the
mainland.
Funeral services will be held in California later this week.
Plans for a local memorial service are pending and will be announced at a later
date.
