I want to thank Laura Wiley and the Kaua’i Humane Society Board members who had the courage to make a tough decision which was sure to bring them unfair and uninformed criticism. These people are just as dedicated and concerned as any former KHS paid staff members. The Board is made up of volunteers who receive no payment for their work and time, and yet are willing to put themselves on the line for what they know is right.
A lot of misinformation is being circulated about Sherry Hoe’s termination. We must all remember that Boards of Directors are charged with holding the executive director accountable if the organization is being run improperly and losing credibility with public officials. I commend the KHS Board for doing the best thing, and the only thing they could do under the circumstances. Their job is to hire and oversee the executive director, and to terminate that director if necessary.
It’s time for the people of Kaua’i to hear both sides and to realize that under personnel law there is much about the Sherry Hoe situation which can never be made public. This gives her supporters an unfair advantage. The Board knew this and still took the action that needed to be taken. I say thank you!
