HANAMA’ULU — County Council Chair Ron Kouchi yesterday said he appears to have
been successful in securing $1 million in federal funds, which will be used to
construct 20 to 30 new rental apartments at the county’s Kalepa Village
affordable rental project here.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is the
source of the funding, said Kouchi, back from a trip to Washington, D.C. last
week to discuss electrical cooperatives and other power issues with the
National Association of Counties.
While there, he and Wally Rezentes, Sr.,
administrative assistant to Mayor Maryanne Kusaka, also met with staff members
of U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye and U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink, on a number of issues.
