Kaua`i stayed in the chase by stumping East Kaua`i 17-8 while the K-Makules
squeezed by Kawaihau 10-9.
Archie Fontanilla picked up his 7th win on the
mound for the Rookies while Tomo Hiranaka suffered the loss for the
A’s.
Stan Dela Cruz had the big bat for the Rookies, going 4-for-4 with
Nelly Mendonca getting three hits, and Dickie Sialana and Doric Remata pairing
hits.
Ismo Yoshishige led the Lihu`e hitting with three hits with Tomo
Hiranaka and Chic Cacabelas pairing hits.
Junior Rivera, making his first
start for West Kaua`i, got a lot of hitting backup to pick up the win. Ben
Aranio socked a 3-run homer on 3 hits in the win with Bobby Rita also tagging a
homerun.
Frank Bukoski, Boni Garma, and Jr. Rivera ended the day with three
hits apiece with Blondie Carveiro pairing.
Ed Bales led East Kaua`i hitting
with a homerun in his 3-hit showing while Sonny Labuguen and Alex Youn pairing
hits.
Walter Silva suffered the loss for East Kaua`i.
K-Makules’ Jay
Acoba got past Teddy Daligdig in a close game as both teams pounded the
ball.
Ernie Domingo and John Taboniar each pegged homers in 3 hits with
Saba Torres and Tada Hashimoto getting two hits apiece.
Kawaihau’s Mamo
Kaneshiro and Joe Pendergest were perfect 3’s with Teddy Daligdig and Paul
Awazu picking up two hits each. Lily Rapozo, the only woman player in the
Kaua`i Senior Center’s senior softball league, also banged out two
hits.
Eleele Field will be the site for the July 8 games that will have
West Kaua`i (6-2) taking on Kawaihau (0-8) at 9:15 a.m. followed by East Kaua`i
(4-4) taking on the Rookies (7-1) in the second contest. K-Makules (2-6) will
tangle with the Lihu`e A’s (5-3) in the finale.l
