KAPA`A—The Lihu`e And 1s coached by Billy Ramos, and the Boys & Girls Club
(Kapa`a) coached by Ed Phillips advanced through the opening round of playoffs
in their age bracket.
The Magic in Kaua`i Magic was made less powerful as
Justin Ramos of the Lihu`e And 1s lit up the boards with 10 of his game-total
11 points to lead the Lihu`e team to a 47-13 win in the opening game of the
Kaua`i Youth Basketball Association playoffs for the 10-Under boys division at
the Bernice Hundley Gym at Kapa`a High School.
Michael Julian
stepped up to pick up the tempo as he joined the rest of the Lihu`e And 1s in
scoring for the second half. Every member of the squad scored in the
win.
Julian had a game-high 14 points followed by Ramos with 11
markers.
Braxton Garma was on a mission as he was relentless for
the Magic, leading the team with 7 points with Randy Charlson coming up with 4
fourth quarter markers including a sorely-needed trey.
Craig
Livingston Rowan may not have lit up the scoreboards, but was a defensive
factor for the Magic, securing many rebounds as well as being able to post
defense in the paint.
TGI Kalaheo Lakers was able to break away
from the defensive slugfest in the fourth period, but the effort fell short as
the Boys & Girls Club (Kapa`a) took an 18-16 win out the door behind the
hand of Halem Medina who ended the night with 8 points. Elijah Phillips added
four second-half points.
The Lakers were able to outscore Kapa`a
7-4 in the fourth quarter, but missed free throw opportunities were costly to
the Kalaheo squad as they ended the night 1-for-5 on the charity stripe, all
free throws coming in the final period. The Boys & Girls Club had no free
throws.
Reggie Vigilia, popping a trey in the second frame to
prevent an empty quarter, topped the Lakers scoring with 7 points followed by
Sam Schur with 4 points.
