KAPA’A — Laurie Yoshida, former president of the Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce, has accepted the part-time position of executive director of the Kapa’a Business Association.
The hiring is the association’s first step to expand its role in the Kapa’a area, and Yoshida will assist the organization in its day-to-day operations, and with membership recruitment, membership communications and ongoing programs and issues.
In the four years she was president of the Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce, membership nearly doubled, while the Chamber annual budget tripled due to new programs and increased community awareness of the organization.
The Kapa’a Business Association is a nonprofit organization whose members work together to improve, sustain and support the Kapa’a community (from the Radisson Kaua’i Beach Resort at Nukoli’i to the Kealia end of Kapa’a), and the entire island.
The Kapa’a Business Association has nearly 60 members, and is involved in several ongoing issues, including the Kaua’i General Plan Final Draft and the quest for a permanent Kapa’a bypass road.
The association in 1999 won a Governor’s Kilohana Award for volunteerism in the community-group category. It sponsors the annual Coconut Festival (the seventh such event is October this year).
