KAPA`A—Kaumakani Coach Fran Raguindin had a busy night at the Bernice Hundley
Gym at the Kapa`a High School campus when she piloted the 12 & Under girls
Kaumakani Supersonics to an opening night 40-7 win over the Hanapepe RefuG’s in
playoff action, and then with less than a ten-minute breather, took over the
reins of the 14 & Under girls Kaumakani Supersonics, and drove them to a
19-17 squeaker over the Pua Loke (Lihu`e) team in opening night action for the
KYBA 14U girls league.
Joanna Jacinto was top gun for the Kaumakani 12U
with 12 points followed by Chantelle Briones who chalked up 8
points.
Chasen Sherman and Brandee Abuan combined for the Hanapepe RefuG’s
7 points.
Chasen Sherman and Abuan continued onward in the night as they
donned the uniforms of the Hanapepe RefuG’s 14U girls team, Chasen retaining
her familiar No. 4 designation while Abuan shed her No. 5 for a No. 21
jersey.
Being outnumbered 10-6, the Pua Loke (Lihu`e) entered the arena
gingerly, being blanked 5-0 by the Kaumakani Supersonics in opening night of
the KYBA 14U Girls summer league.
But, shaking off the jitters, Pua Loke
rebounded 11-7 in the second frame before being bested 19-17 at the buzzer by
the Supersonics who were headed by Jenny Morita’s 5 points, everything coming
in the second half.
Balanced scoring marked the Pua Loke team who was led
by Maile Deguchi’s 5 points followed by Ashley Belisario, Tori Shimabukuro, and
Amber Thronas all chipping in 4 points apiece.
The Puhi Wildcats 14U girls
roared to a 46-11 win over the Hanapepe RefuG’s in the night’s
finale.
Holly Iloreta plugged in 13 points to lead the Wildcats with
Starlene Kelekoma and Lindsay Sugihara each adding 6.
Mallorie Hepa was
able to get off 4 points for Hanapepe with Tehane Andaya, Cieralyn Sherman, and
Kristine Sison adding a pair each.
