KAPA`A—The Lihu`e And 1s got off to a fast start in KYBA 10 & Under boys
basketball on Monday night, but exploded for 27 second-half points for a 41-11
win over the Boys & Girls Club (Kapa`a).
The scoring frenzy was led by Pono
Perez who chalked up 8 of his game-total 14 points in the second half with
Scott Taylor coming in with 8 of his game-total 12 points for the Lihu`e And
1s.
David Kiefer, Elijah Phillips, John Beralas, and Halem Medina accounted
for the Boys & Girls Club scoring.
The Westside Hornets outnumbered the
Puhi Wildcats 2:1 in the opening game of the boys 14 &Under game, but that
didn’t stop the Wildcats from outgunning the Hornets despite scoring being
limited to three of their five players that were on hand for the game.
Puhi
captured the Westside Hornets 37-28 behind the scoring of Aren Racca, Keala
Watson, and Kaupili Akau.
Kawika Hepa topped the Hornets’ scoring lineup
with 8 points followed by Jordan Shea and Luke Tsuchiya chipping in 6 points
each.
Kapa`a King Cobras’ Alika Woodward came back with 7 of his game-total
9 points in the second half, but the effort fell short as the Cobras tied the
Kilauea Warriors 15-15 in the second half.
Kilauea had notched a 17-16
first-half lead that held in their 32-31 edge past the Kapa`a King
Cobras.
Jason Dugay popped five of his game-total 7 points in the fourth
period to lead Kilauea with Alquinn Jimenez, Leonel Calvan, and Kahua Hollinger
each adding 6 points in the win.
Brandon Ballesteros had the hot hand for
the Kapa`a King Cobras with 10 points followed by Alika Woodward’s 9
