were victorious in opening night basketball games for the county of Kaua`i 17
& Under league that kicked off Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood
Center.
The 6 p.m. opener saw Da Realest (Kapa`a) take on the Hanapepe
Dream Team with the 7:15 p.m. game having the Waimea JV squad tackle the Waimea
high school team.
The Hanapepe Dream Team outgunned Da Realest 37-34 in the
second half led by Jesse Erese, but the effort fell short as Da Realest hung on
for the 57-54 victory.
Erese picked up 18 of his 20-point game in that
second half. John Patch of Da Realest also ended the night with 20
points.
Oliver Villanueva had 13 points and Austin Alquiza added 11 points
to pace the Waimea High team to a 55-33 win over the Waimea JV team in game two
of opening night action.
Ricky Riopta was high point man with 12 for the JV
team with John Karratti adding 9.
Three teams from Kapa`a, two from Lihue,
two from Waimea high school, and one team from Hanapepe make up the 17 &
Under (boys) basketball league that opened with a pair of games on April 13 at
the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center under the auspices of the county of Kaua`i
Parks and Recreation department.
Games are played on Mondays and Thursdays
through May 11 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center with three games scheduled
each night starting at 6, 7:15, and 8:30 p.m.
The league will also feature
a pair of Sunday games with the first on April 16 and the other on May 7.
These games start at 5, 6:15, and 7:30 p.m.
Game format is 15-minute
halves.
Team Ekahi (Lihue), On Fire (Lihue), Da Realest, Dream Team, Waimea
JV, Waimea High, Boys & Girls Club (Kapa`a), and Kapa`a High make up the
league overseen by Ricky Rita.
