LIHU’E — A 53-year-old Kekaha man died at Queens Memorial Hospital Tuesday
three days after he was pulled unconscious from waters off Kekaha Beach where
he had gone swimming.
Stanley Bucasas’ death was the result of drowning
and lack of oxygen to his brain, according to an autopsy done by the Honolulu
City and County Medical Examiners Office.
Kaua’i police said Bucasas struck
his head on the sandy bottom off a beach area known as “Intersections” at 3
p.m. last Saturday.
Beachgoers saw Bucasas in trouble and brought him back
to shore. He was transported by ambulance to Kaua’i Veterans Memorial
Hospital and was medivaced to the O’ahu hospital for more extensive
treatment.
Bucasas’ death is the third drowning off Kaua’i waters this
year.
