down.
The county engineer has filed a condemnation suit to have the last
pineapple industry building on Kauai’s west side to be demolished.
The
complex of steel and timber buildings is colla unsafe.
The cannery was
built in 1907 and expanded over the years. It fell into disrepair after Kauai
Pineapple Company closed in 1964.
The complex is owned by a Honolulu firm,
and continues to be partly used by small businesses, including a car repair
shop and a septic system installation firm.
