Asako Tomita of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 21, 2000, at the age of 90. Born in Lihu’e, Kaua’i on Dec. 1, 1909.
She is survived by: four daughters: Alice (Tamotsu) Nagato of Lawa’i, Kaua’i, Helen Tomita of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, Patsy (Larry) Ginoza of Waianae, O’ahu, and Jane (Ronald) Ozaki of Kekaha, Kaua’i; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Tsutao Sato of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, Haruo (Dora) Sato of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, Toshiyuki (Ellen) Sato of Pearl City, O’ahu; two sisters: Matsuko Sakamoto of Honolulu, O’ahu and Nobuko Kusatsu of Honolulu, O’ahu; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Lihu’e Hongwanji Mission. Service officiated by Rev. Yukiko Motoyoshi will begin at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

John Haumea
John Haumea of Wainiha died Jan. 21, 2000, at his home at the age of 67. An equipment operator for the County of Kaua’i, he was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Wainiha.
He is survived by his wife: Eleanor “Lady” Tai Hook Haumea of Wainiha; four daughters: Kehau (Allan) Seramue of Wainiha, Stephanie (David) Speer of Kalihiwai, Annette Haumea of Wainiha, and Barielin “Nani” (Gerry) Learned of Wainiha; three sons: John Haumea Jr. of Wainiha, Blane Haumea of Wainiha and Wilbert Haumea of Wainiha; three brothers: Joseph “Ipo” Haumea of Wainiha, Benjamin Haumea of Kailua, Bonaparte Haumea of Oregon; four sisters: Kalanihon Valmoaja of Maui, Hannah Myers of California, Jeanie Kim of O’ahu, and Frances of Waipahu; 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. at the Hanalei Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church. Services will be conducted at noon; burial to follow at the Hanalei Community Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
