To the Forum:I was disturbed by an article in your paper on Jan. 13
regarding grants to be awarded by the Hawai’i Administration on Aging to
caregivers of Alzheimer and Dementia patients. It clearly states that
preference will be given to lower income Hawaiian and Filipino
ancestry.
This is clearly discriminatory and perhaps illegal. I was under
the impression that Federal Law prohibits this discrimination because of race.
What about people of lower income who happen to be Portuguese, Japanese,
Caucasian, etc.?
There are many different races here in Hawai’i and I am
offended that my tax money shall be used to discriminate for or against anyone
because of race. I have written to U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye and the Hawai’i
Administration on Aging and I am hopeful this can be changed.
