As Christmas approaches, I am quickly reminded that Jesus is the reason for the
season and that this season, beginning with Thanksgiving culminating with the
birth of our Lord, is a time of giving thanks for all that we have been blessed
with, my wife, my family, our friends, our health, our children.
This year,
in particular, I have another thing to be grateful and thankful for. After 36
years of working as the Director of the Family Court, I will be retiring at
year’s end.
I feel particularly grateful and humble for the opportunity to
have served you all these years. It’s a blessing when one can enjoy one’s
career during his lifetime of chosen work as each day is a joy of looking
forward to getting up in the morning and doing the work.
As scripture
says, “Serve wholeheartedly as if you were serving the Lord, not men . . .”
(Ephesians 6:7).
It has been a blessing to serve you, the people of our
community, in my limited way as the Director of the Family Court, as the past
Board of Education Member from Kaua’i, and on the many, many boards, planning
committees, and organizations.
As the new millennium begins, I know that
the Lord will open the door for many new adventures and opportunities in
serving him.
And as I give thanks to the Lord for my wife, our family, our
friends, I give thanks to all of you for allowing me the opportunity to serve
you.
