LIHU’E — A four-car accident at about 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning caused the
temporary closure of southbound traffic on Kapule Highway at the Rice Street
intersection and sent six people to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for
treatment.
According to police reports, a car turning left onto Rice Street
from Kapule Highway was struck by a westbound county water department truck.
The DOW truck veered into the eastbound lane of Rice Street and struck two
additional vehicles.
Six victims were transported to Wilcox Hospital for
treatment. Five were treated and released. The sixth, a 68-year-old man,
remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Police, fire, paramedics, and
Hazmat teams rendered aid at the scene.
