the island in October showed an occupancy rate of 69.1 percent that helped the
island to an overall occupancy rate of 77 percent.
The figures are from the
Honolulu accounting and management firm of PKF-Hawai’i.
In the hotel
industry, properties with occupancy rates of better than 75 percent make money,
so most hotels on the island made money in October.
The overall island
occupancy rate was 70.1 percent in October of 1998.
The October, 1998
occupancy rate for Kaua’i deluxe properties was 67.6 percent.
For the
first 10 months of this year, Kaua’i’s occupancy rate for deluxe properties was
69.4 percent, up from 54.9 percent during the same period of 1998.
Standard
hotels on the island achieved the largest increase in occupancy, with a 32.3
percent jump in occupancy to 65.6 percent in October of this year, compared to
49.6 percent for the same month last year.
The average island daily room
rate in October of this year was $158.70, up from $151.68 for October of 1998.
For the first 10 months of this year, the average island hotel room rented for
$157.85, up from $154.06 for the same period last year.
Kaua’i’s October,
1999 occupancy rate of 77 percent was second in the state to Maui’s 79.6
percent. Statewide occupancy was 75 percent for the same month.
For the
first 10 months of this year, Kaua’i’s occupancy rate of 74.4 percent is again
second only to Maui’s 79.5 percent.
Kaua’i’s overall rate for the first 10
months of this year is way up from the 68.7 percent rate the island endured for
the same period last year.
October, 1999 occupancy statewide was 74.2
percent, up from 73.2 percent for the same month last year.
Statewide
occupancy was 75 percent for the first 10 months of this year, up from 69.9
percent for the same period last year.
