Jose Samiano, Sr.
Jose Samiano, Sr. of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 10, 1999, at the age of 84. Born in Bangi Ilocos Norte, PI., on April 13, 1915, he was a retired X-Ray Technician with Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife: Salud Samiano of Hanamaulu, Kaua’i; five sons: Jose (Virginia) Samiano, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Dante Samiano of Los Angeles, Calif., Marcial (Emily) Samiano of Los Angeles, Rudy (Katherine) Samiano of Wailua Homesteads, Kaua’i, and Melvin (Connie) Samiano of Torrance, Calif., two daughters: Carmen (Richard) Ubasa of Honolulu, Oahu and Evelyn (Marcelino) Taroc of Wailua Hmstds, Kaua’i; one hanai-daughter: Cecilia Ramirez of Los Angeles, Calif., 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; rosary to begin at 6 p.m. Friends may again visit at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, mass officiated by Father Paul will begin at 12 noon. Followed by burial at the Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Craig William Tolman
Craig William Tolman of Nawiliwili, Kaua’i, died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital on Dec. 9, 1999, at the age of 48. Born in California on June 1, 1951, he was a truck driver.
He is survived by his partner, Robin Abrams of Lihu’e; two brothers: Charles (Renate) Tolman, of Victoria, B.C., and Gary (Pat Steffani) Tolman of Seattle, Wash., and one adopted sister, Ligaya Lee C. Perry.
His cremains will be scattered on the ocean by family members. Following the scattering, there will be a memorial gathering at Nawiliwili Harbor on Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at 3 p.m. for all who knew and loved him. Potluck afterwards. Casual attire has been suggested.

Hiro Saiki
Hiro Saiki, of Wailua Houselots, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 9, 1999, at the age of 79. Born in Wailua, Kaua’i on Aug. 23, 1920, he was a retired carpenter with the Carpenters Union, also a Veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by: four sisters: May Tomita, Phyllis Morita, and Susan Iwasaki, all of Honolulu, Oahu, and Jane Hiranaka of Lihu’e, Kaua’i; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service officiated by Rev. Junyu Kudo has been scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Kapaa Jodo Mission. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Mabel Jardine
Mabel Jardine of Kaneohe, died Dec. 11, 1999, in Honolulu, at the age of 71. Born in ‘Ele’ele, Kaua’i, she was resident manager of Kaneohe Bay View Apartment Hoteoll.
She is survived by children James Damien (Geraldine) Souza, Manuel (Dorothy) Jardine III, Dennis (Diane) Jardine, nine grandhcildren; 13 great-grandhcildren; brother, Raymond F. Souza; sisters, Jane C. Rodrigues and Odelia Bradbury; aunts, nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 15, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 9 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Aloha attire is suggested.
Connie Balauro
Connie Caberto Balauro, of Waimea, Kauai, died at her home on Dec. 15, 1999, at the age of 69. Born in San Juan, La Union, Philippines on May 8, 1930, she was a Prep Cook with Wailua Marina Restaurant.
She is survived by: her husband: Manuel B. Balauro Sr., of Waimea, Kauai; three sons: Arthur (Kim) Balauro of Mililani, Oahu, Manuel “Sonny” (Anna) Balauro, Jr. of Kekaha, Kauai, and Terrence (Arlene) Balauro of Waimea, Kauai; three daughters: Corinne (Joseph) Queja of Mililani, Oahu, Melva Acoba and Richard Arakaki of Hanapepe, Kauai, and Betty “Bay” (Alan) Pearson of Mililani, Oahu; 20 grandchildren; three brothers: Carlos Caberto of Kapaa, Kauai, Antonio Caberto of Hanamaulu, Kauai, Richard Caberto of Hanapepe, Kauai; one sister: Mary Caberto of Hanapepe, Kauai; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; rosary to begin at 6 p.m. Friends may again visit at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in ‘Ele’ele; Mass officiated by Father Keahi will begin at 10 a.m. Followed by burial at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Aloha attire is suggested.

Seigo Kagawa
Seigo Kagawa, of Waimea, Kaua’i, died at his home on Dec. 15, 1999, at the age of 84. Born in Waimea, Kaua’i on Dec. 2, 1915, he was a retired Business Manager with Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital; he also served in WW II with the 100th Infantry Battalion 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Mr. Kagawa was an avid golfer, a member of the West Kaua’i Lions Club, DAV and Waimea Educational Foundation.
He is survived by: his wife: Hisaye Kagawa of Waimea, Kaua’i; son: Glenn (Margaret) Kagawa of Waimea, Kaua’i; daughter: Susan Miura of Lihue, Kaua’i; four grandchildren; brother: Ernest Saburo (Molly) Kagawa of Waimea, Kaua’i; sister: Nora (Kiyoshi) Muraoka of Honolulu, Oahu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service has been scheduled at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Waimea United Church of Christ; with Pastor Don Wills officiating. Interment to follow at 5 p.m. at the Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Leticia Levinthol
Leticia Basuel Levinthol of Kapa’a died Dec. 13, 1999, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 44. A laundry helper for Kaua’i Marriott Resort & Beach Club, she was born Sept. 1, 1955, in the Philippines.
She is survived by her husband: Edward “Eddie” Levinthol of Kapa’a; one son: Clay Aaron Levinthol of Kapa’a; mother: Petirina Basuel of Kapa’a, father: Francisco Basuel of Kapa’a; two brothers Sany (Jurlita) Basuel of Kapa’a and Aristonico “Tony” (Christina) Basuel of Kapa’a; and one sister: Florentina Basuel Yadao; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Kapa’a Missionary Church. Services will be conducted by Rev. Edward Terui. Visitation at 4 p.m. Services at 5 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Miles Tamotsu Arakaki
Miles Tamotsu Arakaki of Koloa died Dec. 12, 1999, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 43. A security guard for Garden Island Security, he was born April 18, 1956, in Lihu’e.
He is survived by his wife: Maria Rita Arakaki of Koloa; one son: Miles Y. Arakaki of Koloa; one daughter; Marial C. Arakaki of Koloa; parents: Thomas and Sally Arakaki; three brothers: Wayne (Charlotte) Arakaki, Myron (Doris) Arakaki, and Guy (Diane) Arakaki; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel on Friday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Mario Manuel
Mario Dacuycuy Manuel of Omao died Dec. 11, 1999, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 42. A landscaper for the Hyatt Hotel & Resorts, he was born Aug. 17, 1957, in the Philippines.
He is survived by his wife: Helen Valencia Manuel of Kalaheo; two daughters: Beverly Manuel and Melody Manuel, both of Kalaheo; one son: Jeremy Manuel of Kalaheo; one grandson; his parents: Ricardo (Gracia) Manuel of Hanama’ulu; two brothers: Rolando (Maxi) Manuel of Hanama’ulu, Raymond Manuel of Hanama’ulu, four sisters: Marcy Fermin of Puhi, Lynda (Bert) Erorita of Kalaheo, Imelda (Joel) Tacras of Germany, and Gracean Manuel of Hanama’ulu.
Friends and family may call on Monday, Dec. 20, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. again on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Paul. Burial to follow at Lihu’e Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Annie Burkle
Annie Hawaiiloa Burkle, of Anahola, Kaua’i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 10, 1999, at the age of 59.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward H.S. and Annie Hawaiiloa Kaulia Marino. She was born in Honolulu, O’ahu, on Oct. 3, 1940.
She is survived by: one son: Michael (Sandie) Maness of California; grandchildren: Bryce Kupono Maness, Sarah Mailelelii Maness, and Shayna Rea Maness, all of California; two sisters: Ethelreda Kahalewai and Carol Haliimaile Marino, both of of Honolulu, Oahu; and one grand aunt: Viola Medeiros of Honolulu, Oahu.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Aloha Church Assembly of God in Lihue; memorial service to begin at noon. Friends may again visit from 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kailua, O’ahu; memorial service to follow at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of donations and contributions may be made to the Aloha Church and or Habitat For Humanity-Kaua’i.
