LIHU’E — The County’s skateboard park located at Kapaa New Park is currently
under construction and is “CLOSED” for public use.
But increasing numbers
of youths and adults are trespassing into this facility by climbing over the
enclosed fenced and locked area of the rink to skate.
Anyone who
trespasses onto county property are posing a danger to themselves and to the
county.
The Police Department has been notified to issue citations to
trespassers.
Through the efforts of community members, county officials
are hoping that the park will be completed and officially opened by January
2000.
In the meantime an informational meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the skateboard park facility to discuss the status of the
construction on the facility, rules, regulations, policies of the park, hours
of operation and any other concerns of the community.
The county is asking
for community cooperation in abiding with restrictions for public safety. All
skateboarders of all ages are encouraged to attend this meeting.
An
important link to the success of this facility are the parents, county
officials say.
