HANAPEPE – There was
only one close contest in the opening of the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation
varsity season last Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The defending boys
champion Waimea Menehunes survived in a 4-2 decision over the Kapa’a
Warriors.
In another boys varsity game, the Kaua’i Red Raiders glided to a
9-0 victory over the Island/Kula Wolf-Pac.
The defending girls champion
Kapa’a Warriors were on the winning end of a 7-0 win against Waimea.
The
Kaua’i Red Raider girls also picked up an opening season win — 8-0 over the
Wolf-Pac.
The Kapa’a Warriors won the two junior varsity games. The Kapa’a
JV girls blanked Waimea 3-0, and the Kapa’a JV boys got past the Menehunes
4-2.

Kapa’a 7, Waimea 0
Arlene Devitt scored a pair
of goals and Maja Marti, Jasmine Stevenson, Kanoe Arinaga, Kelly Devitt and
Estrella Barnett all fired in one goal apiece for the Warriors.
Kaua’i 8,
Island/Kula 0
Tiana Lum-Tucker and Kara Matsunaga notched two goals each
for the Red Raiders, and Elise Martin, Keavy Brennan, Chrissy Hayduk and Kehau
Regidor all scored one in the victory.
It was the Wolf-Pac’s first-ever
varsity game. The team played in the JV ranks for the past two
years.

Jamieson Cosier delivered
two goals for the Menehunes and Kelsey Morikawa and Sheldon Shibuya came
through with one goal each.
Eddie Adams scored both goals for the
Warriors.
Kaua’i 9, Island/Kula 0
Mason Chan led the way in the goal
scoring department for the Red Raider boys with a pair of goals. Tate
Takahashi, Jon Ching, Kesson Yamamoto and Louis Abrams Jr., Ryan Shiba, Sean
Kosen and Kaeo Chun all found the net one time.
Junior Varsity

Kapa’a 4, Waimea 2
Tyler Wakuta scored a three-goal hat trick for
the Warrior JV boys, while teammate Danny Rittmeister added one
goal.
Desmond Rodrigues collected both goals for the Waimea JV
boys.
Junior Varsity Girls
Kapa’a 3, Waimea 0
Sheena Jensen,
Shantelle deMille and Jessica Huttger had one goal each for the Warriors.
